She was killed during a training mission aboard a UH-60 Black Hawk near Kandahar in Afghanistan. The crash occurred during a heavy rainstorm in Daman district, and a total of five soldiers were killed. She was previously stationed in Alaska and had one other deployment to Pakistan. She was a 2003 graduate of Liberty High School who attended the United States Military Academy, West Point, to study law. She married her husband, a former Black Hawk pilot, in November and was deployed the following January. Her husband deployed with a private contracting company in February to Afghanistan, and was the escort to bring her home to Dover, DE.

She was survived by her husband; her parents; a brother; a sister and her spouse; and her nieces and other relatives.

Visitation was held at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, Sykesville, MD, on Sunday, March 24, 2013. A funeral liturgy was held on Monday, March 25, 2013 at St Joseph Catholic Community, Eldersburg, MD. Interment on April 15, 2013.
