This Moses was likely the son of Moses and Elizabeth (Allen) Rand. He was likely born in Boston or Charlestown about 1786 and died after 1820.

Moses' exact date of birth, date of death, place of birth and place of death are unknown. Nevertheless, he is an important genealogy link to the Rand family in Charlestown, which goes back to the 1600s in that town. According to "A Genealogy of the Rand family in the United States" this Moses was "probably" the son of Moses Rand and Elizabeth Allen. The younger Moses named a daughter Elizabeth Allen Rand, and logically his daughter was named for his mother. Aside from the connection of the names this Moses was exactly the right age, and in the right place to be the son of the elder Moses, who died in Boston in 1794.

The Rand genealogy says the younger Moses married Mehitable, and that he named a daughter Fanny Titus Rand. This is the Moses that married Mehitable Titus. Mehitable's sister Fanny Titus died shortly before Fanny Titus Rand was born.

Moses Rand married Mehitable Titus in Norton on October 29, 1805. Moses appeared in the 1810 Malden census, which indicated he was 25 or less that year. If he was 25 or less in 1810 he was born no earlier than 1785. But it seems unlikely he was much younger than 20 when he married, because Mehitable was 29 when she married. So it seems Moses must have been born from 1785 to 1787. The 1810 census indicates Moses was younger than his wife, who was older than 25.

The Rand Genealogy says that Moses and Mehitable had a daughter Fanny in 1811 and Elizabeth in 1817. However the 1810 census indicated they already had a daughter. The 1817 birth date for Elizabeth Allen Rand is likely a transcription error, as later census records indicate that she was born about 1808.

Aside from the two children mentioned in this genealogy, Massachusetts death records indicate Moses and Mehitable had a daughter Susan born in 1816 in Malden. Their son George William Rand was born in Charlestown in 1818.

It seems that Moses and Mehitable relocated to Charlestown between 1816 and 1818. Moses does not appear in the 1820 census or any subsequent census records. The last found record of him is an newspaper notice in 1820 in Charlestown. That there were no additional children is an indication that he either died or left his family.

In subsequent years it appears that Mehitable lived with her adult children. In the 1840 census, George's household included a woman in her 60s, and Mehitable would have been about 64 that year. In the 1860 census M. Rand lived with Elizabeth and her husband Samuel Fillebrown. Mehitable died in Cambridge, Massachusetts on October 29, 1860. Her burial place is unknown.

As for Moses's children: Susan married Jonathan Bass. There are no additional records on Fanny, so she might have died young.

The graves Moses's father Moses, and his grandfather Joshua, are unknown. Moses' great grandfather was William Rand (1674-1746). He was buried in Charlestown, and has a findagrave memorial.
