Sanford Cockrell was about eleven years old when he migrated with his parents to Ouachita Parish in northern Louisiana. He married Elizabeth Greathouse. After his father's death, his mother, Elizabeth Huey Cockrell, made a settlement of his estate with their children before remarrying. Sanford is named as a son in these legal papers on file in Ouachita Parish Courthouse.

1880 TEXAS CENSUS, Delta County, Pct. 1, Cooper Rd. - Sanford Cockrell, age 80, born SC, enumerated in household of son-in-law and daughter, A. H. (Anderson H.) and Lydia Ann Sims. Household of Sanford's son, Stephen Cockrell, age 51, next residence.
NOTE: This researcher saw the many old unmarked graves in the Antioch Cemetery, Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, where the brothers, parents and other relatives of Sanford Cockrell are buried according to descendants in the area. They believed Sanford Cockrell was buried there also and gave the date of death as 1866. However, recent information reveals Sanford was enumerated fourteen years later in the 1880 Census of Delta County, Texas. Sanford was missing in this household in 1900. Lydia A. was a widow in the household of a son in the 1910 and 1920 Census, Delta County, Texas. TEXAS DEATH RECORD - Sims, Lydia A. died May 10, 1920 in Delta County. This researcher now believes Sanford Cockrell may be buried in Delta County, Texas, near his daughter, son-in-law and perhaps other descendants.
