Roy Henry was born on July 17, 1896 in Dubuque, Iowa and was the son of Frank and Agnes C. (Hinkels) Ames He married Beulah G. Hall on April 19, 1920 in Kirksville, Missouri and one daughter was born to this union: Sonya Jean (Ames) Ostendorf. He was a World War I U.S. Army Veteran. He was a heavy equipment operator at the Savanna Army Depot before his retirement. Roy lived in Hanover for many years before moving to Lake City, Florida to be near his daughter. He died
