Ray Edward Braxton Jr., 88, a longtime resident of Creedmoor, died Monday, March 28, 2011 at Rose Manor Health Care Center in Durham. A native of Greene County, the son of the late Ray Edward and Minnie Moore Braxton, a member of First Baptist Church in Creedmoor, an Army Veteran of World War II, lifetime member of American Legion Moses S. Cash Post 161 where he served as adjutant for 47 years, a member of Creedmoor Volunteer Fire Department for 37 years and retired owner operator of Braxton Barber Shop for 66 years. He was a true avid sportsman, enjoying golf, hunting and fishing. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Creedmoor by Dr. Tom Jenkins and Rev. Eddie Mauldin. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Anne Laura Rogers Braxton of the home, two daughters, Toni Anne B. Wheeler (Mike) of Butner, Anthea B. Breedlove of Creedmoor, a son Ray E. Braxton III (Betty) of Wilton, three grandsons, Maxwell Wheeler, Ty Breedlove and Samuel Braxton. Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Family Life Center Building Fund, Post Office Box 38, Creedmoor, N.C. 27522. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2011 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at the Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and other times at the home.

Entered service December 5, 1942, Camp Lee, Virginia. Served in England, France, Luxemburg, Belgium, , Holland, Germany, Czechoslovakia. Awarded 4 Bronze Starts and a Combat Infantry Badge.
