COURIER JOURNAL OBITUARY – 03/13/2013
BARR - Francis Irvin, 86, passed away Monday March 11, 2013 at his home. Born in 1926 in Meade County to the late Beckham & Pauline Barr, he was a man of many interests and talents. During his life, he enjoyed his work as a grocer, insurance agent, land developer, realtor, business owner and hardware salesman. His interests included hunting, fishing, flying planes, operating bulldozers, and growing tomatoes. Known as "the Tomato Man", he cultivated 800 tomato plants in his backyard, and enjoyed talking with the many people who stopped to buy tomatoes from the cart in front of his home. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ricky Barr; sister, Ernestine Bywater; and brothers Alfred, Jimmy & Larry Barr. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Corine (Wheatley) Barr; sons Ron (Margo), Gary (Randa), and Ken (Valerie) Barr; daughter Cheri (Steve) Cochrane; seven grandchildren, Erin, Adam, Taylor, Davis, Katie & Eric Barr and Ashley (Mark) Jones; three great-grandchildren, Nate Barr and Cooper & Carson Jones; a large extended family; and a host of friends; all of whom will miss his wisdom, love, and guidance. His funeral Mass will be Thursday, 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity, 501 Cherrywood Road, with burial in Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday, 2-8 p.m. at Ratterman's, 3711 Lexington Road "in St. Matthews." Contributions in his name may be made to Hosparus.
