Janice P. Shipley, 79, of Hannibal, died at 9:25 a.m. May 16, 1998, at her home.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Grand View Burial Park. The Rev. Michael Coleman will officiate.
Mrs. Shipley was born Sept. 2, 1918, in Milan to Ray and Grace Havens Pipes.
Survivors include one son, W.A. Shipley of Hannibal; two grandchildren, Michael A. Shipley of Hannibal and Clay Shipley of Sioux City, Iowa; three great-grandchildren; a special family friend, Edwin Murphy of Hannibal; and two sisters, Waverly Gramling of Kirksville and Bette Barigo of Vancouver, Wash.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Carole Smith.
Mrs. Shipley was a retired elementary school teacher. She began teaching in Pleasant Grove and taught several years in Havana, Ill. In 1955 she moved to Hannibal and began teaching in the Hannibal Public Schools.
For the last 20 years of her career, she taught at Oakwood Elementary School, where she retired in 1987.
Mrs. Shipley was a Methodist. She was a member of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association and the VFW Auxiliary.
She was past president of the Hannibal Chapter of the American Association of University Women and the Heritage Chapter of the DAR in Hannibal.
Mrs. Shipley was a graduate of Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, where she also received a master's degree.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to a fund for her great-grandchildren's education.
