Mary Ann Crain-Patterson was the daughter of William W and Louisa J Bowzer-Crain, she was born August 13th, 1852 in Illinois. She married David W Whitchurch May 23rd, 1867 in Marion County Illinois, they were divorced August 27th, 1867 at Salem Illinois. Mary was married for a second time, June 17th, 1869 to James L Patterson at Walnut Hill Illinois. Mary and James had five children; William Henry, Joseph Macklin, both born in Illinois, John Ernest, Charles A, and Mollie Grace born in Kansas. Mary and James had moved from Illinois to McCune Kansas, along with Mary's folks in about 1876. They moved further west in about 1893, eventually settling into Uniontown Washington and then to Asotin where her husband James died March 1st, 1899. After selling the property in Asotin, Mary had moved back to Uniontown by 1910. From there she lived at various places from Lamont Washington in 1911, to Winchester Idaho in 1912 where she was staying with her daughter Mollie Grant after breaking her arm. From the fall of 1913 to September 1917 she was living at Sprague Washington with her daughter Mollie Grant and Mollie's family. Mary and the Grant's were living at Phillipsburg Montana when Mary Ann Crain-Patterson was killed instantly when the Grant car she was a passenger in, was struck by a train at Dill Montana on October 12th, 1917. Mary is buried at the Mountain View Cemetery in Dillon Montana.
