Robert "Bob" Luman Arnds, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2013 at the age of 92 in his home in Palm Desert, Calif. He was a loving, devoted, and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all he met. His was a life well lived and enjoyed. He has now departed to a peaceful and pain free place. Bob was born in Toledo, Ohio on August 30, 1920 to Mabel G. Cook and Burton N. Arnds. He was the third of seven sons: Burton, John, Theodore, Kermit, Tony, and Richard. He was pre-deceased by his parents and brothers. In 1923 when Bob was approximately three years of age the family moved to California. In 1925 his father started "Sparkletts Drinking Water" company located at 4500 Eagle Rock Blvd., Los Angeles, Calif. The original building is still in use today with the same beautiful green trucks that Bob's mother chose, as "green" meant "life" to her. During Jr. High and High School(Glendale High School) Bob worked in the family business starting at the bottom of the corporate ladder, cleaning bathrooms. He held many positions throughout the years and took an early retirement at age 63 as President of Marketing. He then started traveling with his high school alumni group to many parts of the world, which he enjoyed immensely. In 1999 he was inducted into the IBM Beverage World Bottled Waters Hall of Fame. Bob married Marge Funk (deceased) in 1940, together they had five children. In 1943 he took a leave of absence from the family business to serve in the U.S. Army as a medical lab technician. Upon being honorably discharged in 1945, he returned to the family business. He was a member of the Palm Springs Elks Lodge #1905. He was an avid member of the J.B.M. Fishing Club, having joined in1976 he was the oldest living member. Another love of Bob's was deep sea fishing and the many fishing trips, especially when he caught his fair share, which was often. He met Betty Herman and they were married in 1989 and moved to the Coachella Valley. Both Betty and Bob loved the desert, the hotter it got the more Bob loved it. He loved his home and entertaining family as well as friends. Bob's love for life, sense of humor, and great stories will be missed, but never forgotten. He always had a smile for everyone and a twinkle in his eye. He could make you laugh even if you were crying. No one was ever a stranger to him. He loved children and supported all of their activities, especially education and athletics. Bob is survived and missed by his loving, devoted, and compassionate wife, Betty, also his five children: Karen Roberson (Russel), Kristine Arnds, Kimberly Snyder(Randy), Robert Lee Arnds (Natalie), and Steven Arnds. Seven grandchildren: Bob, Matt, Cody, Traci, Brian, Michael and Malisa. Five great grandchildren: Maxwell, Spencer, Tyler, Abbey, and Kinley. In addition he is survived by four step-children: Karen Anderson (Don), Max Herman Jr. (Diana), Don Kent (Diana), David Kent (Janet). 13 step-grandchildren: Max IV, Michael, Lauren, Eric, Ann Marie, Landon, Jason, Ami, Stefanne, Sharkara, Aaron, Angelea, Jonathon and 27 step-great grandchildren. He is sorely missed by all and will live in our hearts and memories forever. We know you are now enjoying fishing with your buddies, and hopefully your line doesn't get caught in those extra big wings you must have. As I always said, "I got the pick of the litter". We will love and miss you. Until we meet again. At Bob's request there will be no memorial or funeral service. If so desired you may make a donation in Bob's name to the Palm Springs Elks Lodge #1905, Baseball Buddies or The Animal Rescue for Cats.
