Charlotte was a prominent member of St. Louis society. She was described as being the most beautiful woman in St. Louis, as well as one of the richest. Only three days after appearing at a box party at the Grand Opera House in St. Louis, she was dead of peritonitis. The notable mausoleum was designed by Louis Sullivan for her husband, Ellis Wainwright. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
