Christine A. Bates, Galesburg Chapel 95, of Galesburg died at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013 at her home.
She was born November 21, 1917 in Springfield, Ill. the daughter of Paul and Josephine Tribicus Shadis. She married Elmer Bates on May 31, 1936 in Springfield, Ill. He preceded her in death on December 1, 1996.
She is survived by her children, Roger (Sharon) Bates of New Windsor, Ill., Philip (Cris) Bates of Knoxville, Ill. and Joyce Elaine (Tom) Waters of Baton Rouge, La.; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and two sisters.
She worked in sales for Carson and Klines Department Stores for many years. She retired in 1986. She was a charter member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was a member of the Ladies of Mary Guild.
Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Rev. Msgr. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. Visitation will be 8:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
