Army Sgt Buggs was assigned to the 3rd Forward Support Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga. Killed when his convoy was ambushed in Iraq. Buggs was based at Fort Stewart, but was traveling with the Fort Bliss-based 507th Maintenance Company because it needed an extra mechanic with his skills. George was raised by his grandparents and was a soft-spoken young man when he and his wife Wanda fell in love in high school. He joined the Army in 1992 and was considering making it a career. He loved the Army and all the things that it could offer. "I really loved that child. He was just like my own," said Florine Buggs, the soldier's grandmother. "He never gave me any trouble."
