Patsy Smith was born Nov. 17, 1825 in Sullivan County, Indiana. In 1839 she moved to Iowa, and on May 3, 1840 was married to William Billups in Keosauqua, Iowa. She was the mother of seven children, six sons and one daughter. Her husband died Jan. 10, 1887, aged eighty years. She was a member of the Baptist church for more than forty years and lived a consistent Christian life. She has made her home with her son, Joseph W. Billups of Marion Township, for years. For a long time her health has been very poor and her death was not unexpected. The funeral services were conducted Dec. 24 and her remains were laid to rest in the Hughes Cemetery. She was a noble woman and her death is sincerely mourned by a large circle of relatives and friends.
