OBITUARY
Jacob Burriss was born in Campbell County, Tennessee, Apr. 12, 1854 and died at his home in Old Mendon on Aug. 20, 1929. He was married to Cherrie Riggs in 1875 and to this union eleven children were born, seven of whom are living, Frank of Iowa, Mary Pippin of Whitham, William of Bucklin, Ed of Birmingham, Abner of Brunswick, Jess of Wheeling, and Cordelia Vogel of Triplett. These with his faithful wife and 33 grandchildren are left to mourn his passing.
Mr. Burriss was known to a large circle of friends as a good man, kind in his home, and helpful to his fellow men.
Funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday morning and burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Marceline by the Leipard service.
** NOTE** He was raised in the household of his grandmother Mary "Polly" Jarman who married Old Elijah Burriss Oct. 13, 1839 in Campbell County, Tennessee. He used the Burris surname.
