Dorothy Marie Elkins, 95, of Campbells Creek, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Heartland of Charleston after a long illness. She was born and raised on Campbells Creek and lived all her life there.

Dorothy was a loving, caring person and loved her family fiercely. She was a strong survivor after losing her parents, siblings and her husband. She loved working in her yard, spending time with her family and talking with her neighbors. She led a very active life through her 80's.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John "Red" Elkins; parents, Gallie and Ella Hale; sisters, Margaret Davis, Louise Whisenant and Kathleen Hale; and various other relatives.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, 3 daughters, son, special grandson and caregiver, grandchildren who were a close presence in her life, and four other grandchildren all living out of state; eleven great-grandchildren and one on the way; and one great great-grandchild.

The funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with the Rev. Randy Wilson officiating. The burial will be in Younger Hollow Cemetery, Campbells Creek.

A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
