Bedney Franklin Holcombe was the son of Thomas Holcombe and Rachel Gurley Holcombe of Conn's Creek District, Ballground, Cherokee County, GA.

B.F. Holcombe was a Confederate Veteran. He enlisted in the CSA in August of 1864 in Cherokee County in the 11th GA Regiment, Company B., Findleys Regiment. He served for nine months from Aug. 1864 until surrender at Kingston, GA on May 12, 1865.


Mr. B.F. Holcombe Confederate Veteran Passes to Reward

Mr. Bedney F. Holcombe, one of the few remaining Confederate Veterans in Cherokee County, died at his home in Ball Ground, Sunday, June 30 at the age of 88.

Mr. Holcombe was a well-known and respected citizen of the community in which he lived, and in Cherokee County as a whole.

He was among the early settlers of Cherokee County, coming from North Carolina, and settling in the upper part of Cherokee. He married Elsie Conn, a member of one of Cherokee's most prominent families.

Following her death, he married Miss Martha Swinford.

Surviving Mr. Holcombe are nine children from his first marriage, A.T. Holcombe of Atlanta; T.M. Holcombe of Ball Ground; S.C. Holcombe of Rome; J.H. Holcombe of Ball Ground; J.C. Holcombe of Chattanooga, TN; Mrs. Bill Cochran of Ball Ground; Mrs. Lee Milford of Sterlington, La; Mrs. A.F. Holcombe of Miami, FL and Mrs. Archie Hardman of Atlanta.

By his second marriage he is survived by the following children, J. Carl Holcombe of Canton; Mr. Ernest Holcombe of Cumming; Erby Holcombe of Ball Ground; Weldon Holcombe of Chattanooga, TN; Mrs. Clyde Thacker of Atlanta; Mrs. Emmett Cowart of Ball Ground; Mrs. Marion Goss of Atlanta; Mrs. Minnie Holcombe of Ball Ground; Mrs. C.W. Bearden of Lavonia, KY and Mrs. Wade Stamper of Marietta.

Besides these children, Mrs. Holcombe is survived by 85 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service were conducted Tuesday afternoon (July 2, 1935) from Conn's Creek Baptist Church at 2 o'clock with Rev. J.L. Wyatt, conducting assisted by Revs. C.A. Wallace, F. Watkins, and R.A. Richards.
