John P. Phair was hanged at Windsor, Vt., on the 10th, for the murder of Miss Anna Freize, the keeper of a house of ill repute, in June 1874. The evidence against Phair was largely circumstantial, and he died protesting his innocence. He had been once reprieved, the time of his execution being originally set for April 6, 1877.
