Wilma Jo Henderson, 84, of Jerome, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, in Twin Falls, Idaho.
She was born July 9, 1928, in Topeka, Kan., the daughter of Chester B. Root and Hildreth Elizabeth Grigsby Root. Wilma was raised in Barstow, Calif., and graduated from Barstow High School in 1945. She married George C. Henderson on April 3, 1948, and they made their home in Barstow, where they raised two children, Lesley and Matt. Wilma spent most of her working life as a wife and homemaker and was also very involved in several civic activities in addition to helping her husband in their heating and refrigeration business. She loved to golf and play bridge. She was a charter member of the Barstow Hospital Auxiliary. Wilma enjoyed traveling in the motor home. She and George settled in Jerome, Idaho, where she continued to enjoy golfing, playing bridge and making new friends. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Wilma is survived by her daughter, Lesley (Wes) Martin of Jerome; two granddaughters, Beth (Matt) Norberg of Helena, Mont., and Erin Martin and fiance, Romain Lochard of Stanley, Idaho; and two great-grandsons, Griffin and Bennett Norberg. She is also survived by her sister, Janie Eddy; and her brother, Bill Root; and many extended family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; and their son, Matt Henderson.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, at Mountain View Memorial Park, 37067 Irwin Road, Barstow, CA 92311.
