The Mountain Wave, December 27, 1893, p 2. c.3.

Two deaths have occurred at the house of W.L. Baker since our last issue. Van Lay, a student of the Marshall Seminary, was a boarder of Mr. Baker's house and was taken of the LaGrippe about the 13th inst which developed into pneumonia....
...During his sickness, aunt Betsy Baker was lingering with the same disease, though not seriously ill, and was up most of the time till Thursday when her condition became alarming and the physicians remained with her until death came at 0400, Monday Morning and relieved her pain and misery.

Aunt Betsy was 62 years old, was a devoted christian and an attentive attendant at church. She was a kind neighbor, and loved by all. Her helping hand will be missed by the people among whom she lived. The bereaved family have the sympathies of all who knew her. Funeral services were able conducted at the church house by Eld. T. S. Nowlin at 11 o'clock Christmas day, and the remains were laid to rest at Sulphur Springs.

In Memory of Aunt Betsy Baker by Nettie Bratton:
How we miss you dear Aunt Betsy!
But God called you to come up higher
And we had to let you go.

Home is lonely, for it ministering angel is gone,
Everything seems sad and gloomy,
For Aunt Betsy is gone.

You are free from earth's sorrows and cares;
and your day of toil are over,
For you are safe in the arms of Jesus,
With the loved ones gone before.
