KIRK, Carolyn Victoria Stitely Block, died Saturday, March 9, 2013, at her home. "Vicky" was born May 20, 1915, in Waynesboro, Pa., to Addie Grace Reddig Stitely and Elzie Roscoe Stitely. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She graduated from Waynesboro High School and Wilson College, with a B.A. in English, and she taught 8th grade English for several years prior to marrying Leroy Pelton " Riley" Block in 1941. They lived in Waynesboro, Va., Camden, S.C., and Richmond, Va. Riley died in 1976. Vicky was a longtime and dedicated member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church for nearly 50 years, and served as deacon and elder, serving four terms of three years each. In 1983, she served as Commissioner in her Presbytery, and from 1988 to 1991, as chairman of the Worship Commission. She started a Bible study group at Hathaway Tower in Richmond in 1977, which was active for 20 plus years. She was very active in the Women of the Church, receiving honorary life membership in 2003. She tutored children at the Elijah House for many years. She married William Semple Kirk in 1987. Vicky was an avid golfer and bridge player, and enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, knitting, needlework and ballroom dancing. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, she was a very loving and gracious woman. In addition to her husband of 25 years, she is survived by her daughters, Julie Block Milstien of Montpellier, France, Susan Block Bang of Staunton, Va., and Carolyn Block Rasche, of Atlanta, Ga. She is also survived by grandchildren, Michael Bang of Annandale, Va., Eric Bang of Westminster, S.C., Sarah Kennard of Annapolis, Md., Ben Milstien of Tampa, Fla., and Kathryn Rasche of Atlanta, Ga., and great-grandchildren, Sara Bang, Riley and Jackson Bang, Joshua Bang, Annika Milstien and Ellis Kennard; two sons-in-law; a stepson, Fleet Kirk of Richmond; three stepgrandsons, Campbell, Tyler and Hunter; and other steprelatives. She is also survived by her beloved caregiver, Eartha Boone; and her dear friends among the staff at Southerland Place, Midlothian. A memorial Service for Carolyn "Vicky" Kirk will be held at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, Grove Avenue, Richmond, on Thursday, March 14, at 1 p.m. A Committal Service with interment will be held for the family earlier that day at Westhampton Memorial Park, Patterson, Avenue, Richmond. There will be no public viewing. Woody Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, those who wish to, may give in her name, to Elijah House or St. Giles Presbyterian Church youth ministries.
