Laura Jane Foltz Brammerlo

DeKALB – Laura Jane Brammerlo, 90, of DeKalb, Ill., died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center, DeKalb.
Born July 1, 1922, in Fort Wayne, Ind., the daughter of Earl and Guinevere D. (Stamets) Foltz, Laura Jane grew up and attended school there. She graduated in 1940 from Elmhurst High School as valedictorian of her class. Laura Jane worked in the offices of General Electric in Fort Wayne. While employed there, she met Allen Brammerlo, an electrical engineer at GE, and they were married May 2, 1953. They moved to Sycamore, and Allen was employed by GE in DeKalb.
During summer vacations, Laura Jane and her family traveled and camped extensively throughout the U.S. and she especially loved Colorado. In 1982, the Brammerlos moved to Holland, Mich., when GE transferred Allen there. They loved their home in Holland, with its close proximity to Lake Michigan and abundant local activities.
After Allen's retirement in 1986, Laura Jane and Allen spent their winters in Mesa, Ariz., and thoroughly enjoyed their yearly escapes to the sun, with days spent sightseeing, attending community events, taking day-trips, having picnics and spending time with family and friends.
After Laura Jane's beloved husband Allen died in 2002, she moved back to DeKalb in 2004, to be near her family. Laura Jane was a devoted wife, mother and sister. She enjoyed reading, photography, family get-togethers and loved animals, especially dogs. She always had a dog, from childhood on.
She is survived by her children, two daughters, Donna (Tom) Darden and Sue (Dan) Dirker, both of DeKalb; sister, Donna Miller of Fort Wayne; brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Kunau, of San Antonio; special cousin and close friend, Doris Klage, of Fort Wayne; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Laura Jane also will be missed by her dog, Toby, her constant companion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen, in 2002; her parents; her husband's parents, Albert and Clara Brammerlo; brother-in-law, Don Miller; sister-in-law, Mary Kunau; several cousins; and many dear friends.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14, at Sycamore United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson Ave., with the Rev. Harlene Hardin officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Sycamore. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Laura Jane Brammerlo Memorial Fund, sent in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb, IL 60115. The memorial fund is established for Oaken Acres Wildlife Center and the DeKalb Public Library Expansion Fund.
