Charlotte Marie (Sparks) Boward, 89, of Smithsburg, Md., passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born, Feb. 14, 1924, in Ashland, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Charles Martin and Mary Anna (Martin) Sparks.

Mrs. Boward had been employed by the Fairchild Corp. and Doubleday Publishing, both of Hagerstown.

She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, where she sang in the church choir for 50 years, served as a Sunday school teacher and served on the administrative board.

She is survived by:
one daughter,
Cheryl L. Nichols and husband, Danny W., of Whitmire, S.C.;
three sons,
Gary R. Boward and wife, Roanne M., of Clear Spring,
Jeffrey L. Boward and wife, Jennifer, and
Larry E. Boward, all of Hagerstown;
nine grandchildren;
10 great-grandchildren and
three expected shortly;
five sisters,
Edith Blakenship of Ashland,
Allene Adkins of Ohio,
Doris Gallaher of Ashland,
Martha Stouffer Stallings of Greensboro, Md., and
Gladys Hoffman of Hagerstown;
one brother, Ernest "Pete" Sparks of Ashland;
special nephew, Steve Stouffer; and
special caregivers, Tim and Lisa Barkdoll.

In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by
her loving husband of more than 59 years, Robert W. "Bob" Boward, who died Oct. 14;
one sister, Ethel Sparks Elam; and
one brother, James Sparks.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Howard and Summit Avenues, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Randall Reid officiating.

Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.

Memorial contributions may be made in Charlotte's name to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 802 Summit Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740; or to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
