Poseyville News dated October 3, 1943:
Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at the late residence for Mrs. Mary Turpen Fitzgerrell, 77, wife of Graham Fitzgerrell, prominent Robb township farmer. Mrs. Fitzgerrell died Tuesday afternoon at 5:20 o'clock at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Edgar Gale, 69 Adams Ave., Evansville following a year of semi invalidism. Her death severed marital relations of fifty one years the couple having been married Jan. 7, 1892, all of the time having been spent on the Fitzgerrell farm west of town where she went as a bride with the exception of s short residence in Poseyville. She was born near Lynnville the daughter of James and Mary Turpen. Love of her home and family and her interest in the people of the community were outstanding characteristics of a kind and gentle nature. She had a gift for making friends and a rarer gift of holding them. Her consideration for others was evidenced during her last hours when she requested her two grandchildren, living at considerable distance, not to attend funeral services. The body was brought from Evansville to the Werry funeral home here Tuesday and removed to the late residence Wednesday. Burial services were in charge of the Rev. L.H. Graham, pastor of the Poseyville Christian church. Burial was in the Fitzgerrell cemetery family burial ground. She is survived by the husband, who has been in failing health for the past two years; two daughters beside Mrs. Gale, Mrs. Fred Wiley, of Harmony township and Miss Evelyn, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Stallings, of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. H.D. Harpole of Bruce, S.D.; one brother, Mr. Allen Turpen of Omaha, Neb., one granddaughter and two grandsons, one of whom is in the service and at present in Charlottesburg, N.C.
