Sidney—Joseph Moore, 76, prominent retired Sidney farmer, died at 4:15 p. m. last Thursday at his home four miles northeast of here. He had been in failing health for 10 years and suffered a stroke last Sunday. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Church of Christ with Rev. O. J. Thomas, Danville officiating. Burial was in Homer GAR cemetery. Mr. Moore was born Aug. 21, 1872, near St. Joseph, son of Charles and Jane Stayton Moore. He was married to Lillie Coddington of Sidney on Dec. 12, 1897, and they had lived in their present home 39 years. He was a member of the Sidney Church of Christ and was an honorary member of the church board. Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Charles Wood, Sidney; five grandchildren and a great-grandson; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Burris, Haton, N.M., and a half-sister, Mrs. Mary Smith, Urbana. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Arthur, who died seven years ago, and a half-brother, William Swinney. (transcribed by Homer Historical Society)
