Wilfred Johnson Died Suddenly In Hamilton Was a Native of Springfield. Spent the Summers at Port Bruce
The news of the death of Wilfred Connor Johnson, which occurred suddenly at his home in Hamilton, on Thursday afternoon, January 14th, from a heart attack, was a great shock to the friends of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson in this district. He had not been in the best of health for the past two years, but was carrying on his business as usual at 351 Main street east, Hamilton, and was recognized as an expert in his profession. He found photography both a vocation and a hobby and was an artist in his line
"He was fond of gardening, as the beautiful flowers grown at his summer home at Port Bruce, testified. He was most generous with his beautiful flowers and he always provided a bouquet for the church services at Port Bruce each summer. He made some wonderful films in colour of some of his finest specimens."
Born on a farm near Springfield, a third son of the late Humphrey Johnson and Isabel Connor Johnson, Wilfred Johnson learned the photography business in London, Ont., and later went to Regina, where he operated a studio for some years. On his return east he went to St. Thomas, opening a business there and where he remained until moving to Hamilton 25 years ago.
Mr. Johnson was a Mason and a Member of Acacia Lodge A. F. & A. M., in Hamilton. He also belonged to the I.O.O. F. and in religion held to the United Church.
Surviving are his wife, the former Edna Young, of Port Bruce, two sons, Connor Johnson of San Francisco and Philip Johnson, of Detroit; two brothers, of Regina, and Harry Johnson, Vancouver; one sister Mrs. William Scrimgeour, of Regina.
The funeral service was held from the P. X. Dermody home on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with interment in Westmount Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. J. H. Arnup, of Toronto, a neighbor at Port Bruce spoke at the service
