Duane grew up on a farm in Coleman Michigan and learned to work hard at a young age.
He fought in India and Burma in WWII, was wounded in his line of duty and lived thru many atrocities which memories of he carried silently for 60 years.
Married Lorraine Esther Ulman.
Fathered 5 children.
Retired from Dow where he was an electrician.

Rankey, Duane R. Bay City, Michigan
Mr. Rankey passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Sheffield Bay. Age 93 years. The son of the late Charles and Mary (Hund) Rankey was born December 27, 1919 in Coleman, Michigan. Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, animals, gardening, cars and was always there to lend a helping hand.

Mr. Rankey is survived by five children: Gerald (Bunni) Rankey, Kay (special friend Loren Haas) Hakala, Rich (Mary) Rankey, Robert ( Mary Ann) Rankey, James (special friend Sandy MacDonald) Rankey; six grandchildren: Jason, Nate, Angela, Robbie, Bradley and Kellie; four great grandchildren, Aiden, Baley, Brady and Gabby; very special niece, Ruth (Gordon) Curtis. In addition to his parents Duane was also preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Rankey; one sister, Hilda Dana and one brother, Edwin Rankey.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Sheffield Bay for their compassion and care that they gave to Duane and especially for the extra snacks and desserts.

Funeral and Committal services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Officiating will be Rev. Lee Austin under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council with private interment in Geneva Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. and until the time of services. Memorial cards for the Bay County Veterans Council or the wishes of the family will be available at the funeral home.
