May 14, 1888, he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Alice Friesner. Their married life was a very happy one. No children were born to this union. He leaves a wife, three brothers, Anderson, Clark and Lewis Ickes. Also many relatives and friends to mourn their loss.
His parents and two sisters preceded him to the other world. He was a good husband and a citizen always ready to assist in charitable matters.
He was a member of the Improved Order of Red Men. As such he was active and followed out his fraternal obligations.
The funeral took place in Van Wert in the beautiful grove at the home of his brother-in-law, Ora Friesner. Fully a thousand people gathered to pay their last respects to the dead. The Order of Red Men, of the lodge of which he was a member, and of the lodge at Rockford, attended in a body.
The wife, brothers and other relatives of the deceased, desire in this manner to make known their sincere thanks for the beautiful flowers as silent tributes and also to all who so kindly assisted in burying the dead."
