THORNTON PATRICK JOSEPH "JOE"
Age 83, of Point Breeze, died Friday, May 30, 2008 in St. John's Specialty Care Center after being ill for the past several months. He was born December 16, 1924 in Pittsburgh to the late Coleman and Mary (Dillon) Thornton and lived in Pittsburgh all his life. Mr. Thornton was a Pittsburgh Police Officer for 28 years and a WWII Army/Air Force veteran. He was a member of St. Bede Parish in Point Breeze, The Irish Center of Pittsburgh, the All Ireland Athletic Club and American Legion Post 5. Mr. Thornton enjoyed his winter months in Fort Myers Beach, Florida, but especially he enjoyed his family, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Devoted husband for 60 years of Margaret (Peggy Clancy) Thornton; loving father of Judith Kelly (the late Jim) of Natrona Heights, Janet Thornton of Sanford, NC, Steven Thornton (Elaine) of Beaver, PA, Joanne Thornton of Monroeville, Joyce Thornton-Hanson (Dan) of Leonardtown, MD and Spencer Thornton (Trina) of Pittsburgh. Treasured Grandpa of James, Jennie, Jonathan, Maura, Tara, Sheila, Patrick, Ian, Jodi, Regina and Nathan. Great Grandpa of Lilianna, Aidan, Ethan, Owen, Noah, Logan and James. Beloved brother of Mary (Thornton) Connolly and the late Katherine "Kay" Lloyd and Bridget "Babe" Thornton; dear nephew of the late Martin Dillon. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Friends received at McCABE BROS., INC. FUNERAL HOMES, 6214 Walnut Street, Shadyside on Sunday and Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM, where Funeral will commence on Tuesday at 9:30, followed by Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bede Church at 10:30 AM.
