Born in St. Anthony, Idaho; son of Mary Elizabeth Jackson Nielsen and Sidney N. Nielsen; sixth of nine children; lived in St. Anthony until marriage; graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1938; married his high school sweetheart, Anne Housley on June 7, 1939 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple; three sons, Steven Gayne, who lived two days, Jeffery Scott, and Rick Jon; learned carpentry from his father; worked in the building trade all his life; built many homes, schools, hospitals and church buildings; restored the Lion House in downtown Salt Lake City and the restoration of the Logan LDS Temple; directed the construction of the Washington, D.C. LDS Temple; assisted in the finish work on the Las Vegas LDS Temple; served in the U.S. Navy during World War II; active member of the LDS, including 10 years as counselor in the St. Anthony LDS 3rd Ward; two years in the high council in the Brigham City South LDS Stake; preceded in death by wife; survived by son Scott Nielsen and Rick Nielsen; five grandsons, two granddaughters and two great granddaughters; brother Lyle Nielsen and sisters Elva Bagley and Gerri Mortensen.
