Lorentz was born Dec 25 1795 in East Schuyler, Herkimer Co. NY to Johann and Maria Bekker Rima. Lorentz moved to Rome, NY in 1814 where he married Catherine McNutt on Feb 7 1815. In 1818 Lorentz, Catherine and son Levi moved to Chester TWP, Geauga County, OH. In 1837/38 the family, now including son John moved to Stephenson County IL. Lorentz left Illinois in 1852 with his son Levi and located in Bremer County, Iowa. In 1857 he and Catherine moved with their son John to Kansas. Lorentz died there in May 1860. It is believed Catherine married Asa Burton Ames after Lorentz died. In the 1860 census she is listed as Asa's wife and members of the household include John Rima and his children Clinton and Mary.
