Services were held at Stringer's Funeral Home on Monday, October 26, 2009.
Mrs. Ates was born on July 1, 1912 in Smith County to Minnie Boone and William Faroah Lack, but lived most of her life in Crystal Springs. She attended Crystal Springs School and spoke often of how she loved playing basketball there. She was known for having a green thumb and could root anything that could be rooted. She particularly enjoyed growing daylilies.
Mrs. Ates was preceded in death by her husband, William Lester Ates. Together they owned and operated of Ates Service Station, a Standard Oil station, for around 50 years. They also owned and operated rental units in Crystal Springs and were members of First Baptist Church.
Her survivors include: a brother, Gather Lack; a sister, Willie B. Brown; a daughter, Betty Frizzell; a son, Williams Donald Ates; grandchildren, Carol Frizzell, Gary Frizzell, and Jerry Frizzell, and Bryan Ates; and great grandchildren, Lyndsey Hunt, Kelsey Frizzell, Michael Weaver, Ashton, and Brennan Ates.
