Heather N. 'Nikki' Cook, 34, formerly of Windsor, died Thursday, December 16, 2010, at her home. Viewing will be 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday from the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. The service will begin at 8 p.m. on Wednesday from the mortuary. Cremation is to follow. She was born April 8, 1976, in York a daughter of Susan Cook. Heather was a 1994 graduate of Red Lion High School, York County. She had received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1999 from Millersville University, Lancaster County, in Special Education and returned to Millersville to receive her Masters in Counseling in 2006. Heather was presently employed as a guidance counselor with the Pine Grove Area High School. Schuylkill County. She was a sports enthusiast and athlete and enjoyed playing rugby, softball and volleyball. She was a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Steelers. Heather was an avid reader and loved attending auctions and yard sales. She was a "do-it-yourselfer" and spent much of her spare time repairing and improving her home. Heather had adopted two "Rescue" dogs, Peaches and Kallie, who will miss her dearly. Heather leaves her mother, Susan J. Cook and her partner, Mark Hagel of Windsor; her maternal grandparents, Shelton C. and Frances R. Cook of Stewartstown; her life partner, Pam Ryan and her daughters, Corrine and Kaylin Ryan, all of Pine Grove; aunts and uncles, Butch Cook and his wife, Jenna of Manchester, Md., Lisa Cook of York, Jenny Cook of Dover; cousins, Brandon M. Cook of York and Nancy A. Cook of Manchester, Md. Heather also leaves a dear friend and godsend, Rob Madigan of Pine Grove. Heather was preceded in death by an aunt, Nancy Wight.
