Charles A. Crutchfield Sr., 72, of Hamden, departed this life August 13, 2011. He was the husband of Doris M. Crutchfield.

Born in Boydton, VA, October 23, 1938, he was the son of the late James E. and Hazel M. Crutchfield.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Crutchfield was employed by Infra Metals as a tractor trailer driver. He was an Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lisa Crutchfield Diggs (David); a son, Charles A. Crutchfield, Jr.; brothers, James Crutchfield and Thomas Crutchfield (Betty); a sister, Edith Simms (Alva); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by a brother, Walter Burton Crutchfield.

A celebration of Mr. Crutchfield's life and legacy will be held Friday, August 19, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. at Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church, 425 Newhall St., Hamden. Viewing will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Delta Foundation of Greater New Haven, P.O. Box 8328, New Haven, CT 06530.

Donations will benefit programs for youth in the New Haven area.
