She is the daughter of James William and Martha Jane (Roper) Prater. Carriston and Nancy had 13 children altogether; Hazel Norrien, James David, Edmund Cleo, Nila Lee, Robert Clifton, Earl Blakley, Birdie Mae, Nona Viola, Tony Manford and (twin died), Redic Bacum, Lester Otho, O'toma Florence.
