Death of Mr. Wm. Perrin, Sr., of Roseville
The intelligence of the death of this sturdy son of England, last Thursday, will cause his many friends sincere regret. Possessed of strong bodily health he had exceeded his 75th year, and when last in Galt, looked still the strong man he had been, but age had sapped his vitality, and without a great deal of suffering, he passed quietly to his rest.
Mr. Perrin was born in Essex, England, 8th June, 1813 and came to Canada in 1834, settling first in Hamilton, where he lived for about nine years, during which time he took part in the suppression of the McKenzie rebellion. In 1839 he married Miss Newstead, sister of Mr. John Newstead, of Roseville, who still survives him, and after living about four years on Hamilton Mountain, he took up land near Roseville, on which he resided until about 14y years ago, when he retired, moved into the village, and enjoyed the rest and ease his active life so justly entitled him to. Mr. Perrin was possessed of a quaint, original mind, combined with great geniality of heart, and in the quiet details of life or in the public discussion of questions, brought to bear an excellent humour and judgement.
His family consisted of five sons and two daughters, all of whom are yet living, viz: - Mr. James Perrin, of Listowel; Messrs. John and William Perrin, egg-dealers, Newmarket; Mr. Joseph Perrin, who resides on the homestead; and Mr. Benjamin Perrin, of Berlin; Mrs. John Woods, of Berlin; and Mrs. Nathan Woods, of Waterloo, near Mannheim.
Mr. Perrin's funeral took place on Sabbath morning last to Roseville Cemetery, his old friends and acquaintances attending his remains to their last resting place in large numbers.
