Chester A. "Chet" "Pap" Lowe, 84 years of Liverpool entered into rest on Friday evening, March 8, 2013 at the Stonebridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, Duncannon. Chester was born on May 15, 1928 in Watts Township, Perry County, a son of the late Lawrence F. and Elizabeth (Miller) Lowe. He was a 1945 graduate of Newport High School. Chester worked as a freight clerk for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Enola when he was inducted in the US Army on November 1, 1950 and served during the Korean War. On May 5, 1951, by Rev. G. D. Strail, he married the former Clara M. Stroup, who survives. His passing breaks a loving marital union of 61 years. In partnership with his son, Chester acquired Jay's Restaurant, Liverpool in 1972. The name would later be changed to Lowe's Restaurant. He later retired from Chromolloy American Corporation.
He was a lifetime member and past commander of the Liverpool American Legion Post 364, Liverpool, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5049, Millerstown. He was a member of the The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Liverpool. Chester enjoyed vintage radios.
In addition to his wife, Chester is survived by a son and daughter-in-law; Bradley "Brad" and Leslie Lowe, with a great grandson Austin, a grandson Christopher Lowe and his wife Debra, with great granddaughter Breanne; a sister Jeanette Whitmer, a brother Ernest Lowe and his wife Barbara, with nephew Mike and niece Diane.
He was preceded by his brother-in-law William Whitmer.
Friends and family are invited to the viewing on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc. 606 N. Front St., Liverpool. Officiating will be Rev. Joseph Faust. Burial with full military rites accorded by the Liverpool American Legion Post 364 will be made in the Liverpool Union Cemetery.
