Ray was born September 19, 1919 to Reuben Odious and Roberta Mae Cannon Strickland in Bristol, Florida. He was a member of Lake Mystic Baptist Church in Bristol, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents and also his brothers, Hamilton, Oliver, Bruce, Jake and Steven Strickland and sisters Trudy S. Bateman and Mary Jane S. Sumner. He was also preceded in death by his wife Laurine (Young) Strickland and his wife Ella Ruth (Sellers) Strickland and his son John Sellers.
He is survived by his children, Ruth Vanlandingham of Greensboro, Florida, Phyllis Moore of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine and George Strickland (Sharon) of California.
He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Tim Adams (Suzi) and Cindy Rudd (Gary), of Greensboro, Christi Bush (David) of Ft. Myers, Tim Stevens (Danielle) and Heidi Pahlavan (Caven) of New Hampshire, Tom Stevens (Julie) and Heather Seavey (Robby) of Maine, George Strickland (Carol), Dustin Strickland (Cathy) and Kerri Strickland all of Maine, Artie Sellers, Kevin Sellers, and Cammeron Sellers all of Tallahassee. He is also survived by 17 great grandchildren, a great-great grandson and devoted caregiver and family friend Ann Rodgers.
