L. K. received Jesus Christ and was baptized at the Shady Grove Baptist Church of Carthage, Texas as a youth. He was educated at Center Point Vocational School in Camp County Texas where he mastered in Carpentry and Cement Finishing.
He later met and married Lou Addie Gloston of Pittsburg, Texas, on July 17, 1940. To the union 4 Children were born, Arthur Jerry Wallace, Linda Joyce Wallace-Geter. L.K.Wallace, Jr. and James Wallace, who preceded him in death.
In 1944, L. K. moved his family from Texas to Marin City, CA. Where he became a member of the Construction Union and began a long and productive career.
In 1962 he became the first employee of Annuzzi Concrete Company and because of his extraordinary skills and leadership he was promoted to the positions of Foreman and Superintendent.
L. K. also was an activist in the West Oakland community where he owned several properties. He was actively involved with Oakland Redevelopment Agency and the Oak Center Community Project, which brought affordable housing to the community. As the community was undergoing a massive transformation, L.K. was instrumental in ensuring that the Black community's interest was protected and represented. He and other community leaders stopped the City of Oakland from demolishing historic Victorian homes to make room for the connecting freeway and preserve these historic homes, which has now become Preservations Park in downtown Oakland. In the community he was affectionately referred to by everyone as "Mr. Wallace".
L.K.'s greatest love was his family, which he never forgot. He loved and always looked out for the the welfare of his parents, wife, children, siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family members.
There are many stories that could be told about L.K. and his legacy, but anybody that knew him, know he loved to build. His family viewed him as a master builder.
L.K. was preceded to eternal glory by his wife Lou Addie Wallace, his parents Arthur and Lennie Wallace, sisters Lovie Wallace, Beatrice gray, Ruth Arlin Stevenson, Dorthy Rene Lewis, brothers, Arzie Wallace, L.J. Wallace, Narzell Wallace and son James Wallace.
He leaves to morn two sons Arthur Jerry Wallace of Manteca, CA, (Martha), L.K. Wallace Jr., of Antioch, Ca., and two Daughters Linda Joyce Wallace - Geter of Oakland,CA, Gazelle Wallace-Richards, of Tacoma, Washington. His sisters, Jeffie Z. Morrison, of Seaside, Ca, Cleo M. Chalmers, of Dallas, TX, Floarvis I. Douglas, San Jose, CA, and Lacye P. Lawson, of Oakland, CA. and a special nephew, Freddie Joe Wallace, of Longview, TX., who he loved to spend time with.
His loving 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great - great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews and relatives and friends.
