Belva Arlene (Wahl) Bravo Belva passed away March 7, 2013 in Rio Dell, at River House Assisted Living. She was born in Fortuna on December 3, 1917 to Ernest and Gertrude (Goble) Wahl. After graduating from Fortuna High School in 1936, Belva attended Humboldt State College and then St. Lukes Nursing School and graduated in 1941. She always looked forward to the reunions with her nurse classmates. Belva work at Hoopa Hospital during WW II and then Scotia and was on staff the day Redwood Memorial opened their doors to the new Hospital. In 1945 Belva married Fred Bravo of Metropolitan. They had a Dairy Ranch until the 1964 flood and then started a produce business. She cooked many large lunches for Fred's hay crew during the summers and then would hurry off to work the 3-11 shift at the hospital. Every January Belva and Fred would have a crew of friends over to make Swiss Italian Sausage and Salami, a family tradition. Belva was an avid collector of antique Blue Glass and had a beautiful collection. She was a member of the former Ferndale Dance Club and Monday Evening Club, also member of Church of Christ, Eastern Star, Native Daughters, Relic Club and Retired Nurse's. Belva is survived by her son Lanny and daughter Arla: grandsons Lance (Laurie) and Chad: great grandchildren Tyler and Mariah. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, son Alan, sisters Beryl Foley and Marilyn Windbigler Our family is very grateful to the River House, George and Peggy Patmore also Michelle, for their loving care of our mother and for making her part of their family.
