Mother Velma Henry, 97, died December 24, 2006. She was born August 9, 1909, in Lufkin, Texas to parents Florida Albriton and Daniel Washington.

Mother Velma lived in Lufkin, Texas with her daughter and was the oldest member and Mother of Abundant Life United Methodist Church. She became active in several areas of ministry, such as: Missionary Department, where she eventually became the president and teacher, where she taught and shared her gift of ministry to children through Sunday school. She dedicated her time to feeding needy-families and visiting the sick. She was known to many as "Mom."

Mother Velma is survived by her daughter, Doris Charlton-Garcia, and grandchildren Linda Garcia-Royal and husband Elmer Royal of Tyler, Dan Garcia of Lufkin, Gregg and wife Jackie Garcia of Lufkin, Pamela Garcia-Thomas and husband Buford Thomas of Lufkin. Mother Velma is also survived by 21 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren a total of five generations.

Visitations for Mother Velma Henry are scheduled for Wednesday, December 27, 2006, from noon until 9 p.m. followed by a second visitation on Thursday, December 28, 2006, from 9 a.m. until funeral services time which is 1 p.m. in the Abundant Life United Methodist Church, 1715 Sayers Street, Lufkin. Visitations and funeral services will be held at the Abundant Life United Methodist Church, 1715 Sayers Street, Lufkin. Hicks Mortuary, directors.
