Samuel was born in Utah, the eldest child of Charles and his first wife, Elizabeth. Around 1874, he married Mary Naylor and had one daughter with her. As I've never found his marriage records, it is unclear if he practiced plural marriage, or if his marriage to Mary was simply short-lived. In any case, he was married to Sarah Trappett by 1877, and sometime in the late 1890's, the family removed to Cardston, Alberta and eventually settled in Taber. Samuel worked as the city sexton and undertaker for a good portion of his life. He died in 1944 in Taber.
