A funeral Mass will be celebrated for Frederick E. Greenland of Greenbrae at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Sebastian's Church in Greenbrae.

Mr. Greenland died of cancer Saturday at Carewest Convalescent Hospital in Greenbrae. He was 74.

He was born in Baguio, Philippines. His father, a U.S. soldier who fought in the Spanish American War, married a Spanish sea captain's daughter (Pilar del Villar) and settled in the Philippines. The family moved to the United States in 1938. He attended the University of California at Berkeley.

He joined the merchant marine during World War II. He then worked as a ship's captain for the Moore McCormack Steamship Co. on ships from the United States to South America. After retiring from the steamship company, he was a production manager for California Saw and Knife Co. in San Francisco. He retired in 1990.

Mr. Greenland was an avid golfer and was a member of the Peacock Gap Golf & Country Club in San Rafael. He was a member of the Mill Valley Outdoor Art Club and St. Sebastian's Church.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Josephine "Jo" Greenland of Greenbrae; a son, Bruce Greenland of San Rafael; a daughter, Pamela Del Villar of Mill Valley; two sisters, Mary Jane Hollin and Grace Couch, both of Paradise; one brother, Joseph W. Greenland of Boise, Idaho; and four grandchildren.

Burial will be at Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Marin or St. Sebastian's Church.
