Belton—Memorial service for Henry Wilson Barrett, Jr., 72, of Belton will be held at 10:00 AM Monday at the Dossman Funeral Home Chapel. Henry will be laid to rest in Salado Cemetery.

Mr. Barrett died Friday, March 8, 2013 at a Temple hospital.

Mr. Barrett was born in Indio, California, May 9, 1940, to Henry Wilson Barrett, Sr and Ruth Martin Barrett.

Henry grew up in Lindsay, California and graduated from Lindsay High School in 1958. He was active in football, baseball and FFA (Future Farmers of America) and received many awards and accolades while participating in these activities.

Henry started working for Mobil Chemical in 1958 and worked continuously there for 37 years, until his retirement in 1995. While at Mobil, he was selected for many promotions and worked for Mobil in California, Georgia and Texas. Henry was recognized on numerous occasions for his dedication, hard work, years of service and management skills. His time spent at Mobil was very important to him. He enjoyed the work and his time with the company. Over the years at Mobil, Henry held many management and supervisory positions.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed being outside and working with his hands. Henry was an excellent craftsman, carpenter, and wood worker. He also enjoyed working in the yard and fixing anything that was broken and needed repair.

However, Henry's passion was Golf and all sports. Oh, how he loved to play golf, and he played as much as he could. He was a superior athlete and mastered any game he took on. He was an excellent golfer and loved being with his golf family and friends at Mill Creek Golf Club. Over the years, the game of golf gave Henry much happiness. Henry won many awards for his golfing skills and had several holes in one.

Henry also followed football and loved to keep up and stay connected to all his favorite high school, College and pro teams. He especially liked the Temple Wildcats, Belton Tigers, numerous College teams and in the Pros: the Washington Redskins. Henry always watched sporting events whether in person or on TV. He studied the dynamics of each sport and became knowledgeable about each and every sport and could give you information at a moment's notice. He also loved baseball, and in his later years Henry became a huge Texas Ranger Baseball fan, attending many games in person.

Above all, Henry loved his family. He made time to attend as many family activities and events as possible. He always wanted to spend quality time with his family. Holidays with family were very special to him. Henry always wanted family at his side.

Mr. Barrett was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Elwanda Steelman, a brother, Robert Barrett and daughter, Lori Barrett.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Barrett, daughter Kelly White and husband Judd White, son David Barrett, step-son, Jon Hutchinson and wife Lora and grandchildren Allison Smith and husband Judd Smith, Amy White, Tyler Hutchison and Brittney Hutchison, great-grandchild Josiah Smith, also nieces and nephews and his dog, Cookie.

Memorials may be made to Scott and White Children's Hospital in Temple.
