Elsie B. Huber, age 84, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, November 17, 2012, at the Washington County Hospital following a short illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bob Wollenberg officiating. Visitation will begin noon Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:30 Tuesday evening. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the Washington Community Y or the Washington Community Theater.

Elsie was born January 2, 1928 in Ames, Iowa to parents Charles Norman and Verna Eunice (Hughes) Brown. She graduated from Ames High School and received a degree in Home Economics from Iowa State University in 1949. On October 21, 1950, Elsie was united in marriage to Robert G. Huber at the Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames, Iowa.

Elsie worked at the Gas Service Company in Kansas City, Missouri from 1949 – 1950. Following their marriage, Elsie and Bob lived in Hampton, Illinois; Red Oak, Iowa; and Corning, Iowa before moving to Washington, Iowa in 1960. Elsie worked as an Abstractor at Day, Meeker and Bates Law Firm from 1972 until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Washington, Iowa, the YMCA and YWCA, the Washington Extension Council, the Iowa Land Title Association, P.E.O., Chapter OC, AAUW and the Washington Community Theater. Elsie taught Sunday School for many years and served as Sunday School Superintendent. She was active in Y-Wives, was a swim team coach for many years and taught lessons for the Red Cross swimming program. Elsie also served as a 4-H leader and helped establish the Washington County 4-H endowment. She helped with costuming for Theater Productions and was involved in the building of the Washington Community Theater. She was active in Community Chest and was honored as a Gold Feather Recipient in 2008.

She is survived by her husband, Robert G. Huber of Washington, Iowa; son, Steve Huber and wife Jennie of Bellingham, Washington; daughter, Sue Spencer and husband Dale of Washington, Iowa; five grandchildren: Andy Huber of Bellingham, Washington; Eric Huber and wife Tia of San Diego, California; Beth Spencer of Aurora, Colorado; Stuart Spencer and wife Erin of Johnston, Iowa; and Nick Spencer of Davenport, Iowa. Elsie is also survived by three brothers: Charles "Norman" Brown Jr. and wife Carolyn of Normal, Illinois; Wayne Brown and wife Doris of Ames, Iowa; and Keith Brown and wife Ruth of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister-in-law Ruth Brown.
