He and his wife were godparents to the children of his sister Catharina Truby Rohrer (about 1764 to 1806) and John Marshall (about 1761 to 1806): Andrew Marshall, Samuel Marshall, John Marshall and Mary Ann Marshall. He served for a time as guardian to Catharina's son Frederick Augustus Rohrer (1794-1882) and her first husband Frederick Rohrer (1767-1794). He and Susanna had no children of their own, but may have reared some of the orphaned Marshall children. They made their home from about 1812 on the Allegheny River near Millers Eddy, Perry Township, Armstrong County PA.
