Son of Joseph Lawson and Jane Young. Learned football as a student at Lisgar Collegiate, continued at University of Toronto as a star halfback. Dubbed the "Big Train" of Canadian football.
Starred with Toronto Varsity when they won Grey Cups in 1909 and 1910. Was the star player in the first Grey Cup game in 1909, scoring one touchdown and kicking 2 singles.
Played for the Toronto Argonauts from 1911 - 1914. Inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1963 and into the Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1975.
Lawson returned to the University as a professor of Surgery and served as Chief Coroner of Ontario from 1937-1962.
