John married Anna Mable Skime on October 29, 1938 in the Wannaska parsonage by Pastor Eggen. He continued to work on the family farm along with running his trap line for many years. In 1957, they moved to International Falls, MN and he was employed by Boise Cascade Paper Mill until retiring in 1976 as a plywood inspector. Following his retirement they moved back to the family homestead and then into Roseau.
John was an excellent fiddle player and enjoyed music of all types. He would memorize music from the radio and played music by ear with his wife and family. He loved to visit with his family telling stories of the old days talking around the table. His family was very important to him, he cherished the time he spent with them. Some of his other hobbies where deer hunting in his younger years, but he quit hunting later in life. He just couldn't shot the deer anymore he loved to watch them.
John and Anna are life members of the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Skime.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his spouse Anna of 69 years; his children, Phyllis Bluhm of Thousand Oaks, CA; William (Bonnie) Mielke of Roseau; Barbara (Peter) Edens of Virginia, MN; his grandchildren, Richard Bluhm; Randy (Diana) Bluhm; Susan (David) Salvoski; Teresa (Leland) Sehlstrom; Jonnie Mielke; Bruce (Leah) Sirotiak; Tammy (Christopher) Welch; Tom (Anna) Edens and Kristen Edens; his great grandchildren, Katie, Kelsey, Dylan, Jacob, Danielle, Cheyne, Trevor, Ethan and Emma.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday in the Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
