John Harold Mielke, 95, of Roseau, MN formerly of Skime, died, on Sunday July 20, 2008 at the LifeCare Roseau Manor with his spouse by his side. He was born July 4, 1913 to William and Tilda (Roysland) Mielke in northern Beltrami County on his family's homestead. He helped with the farm work and started running a trap line when he was 12 years old and hunted for fresh meat. You might say they lived by the gun.

John married Anna Mable Skime on October 29, 1938 in the Wannaska parsonage by Pastor Eggen. He continued to work on the family farm along with running his trap line for many years. In 1957, they moved to International Falls, MN and he was employed by Boise Cascade Paper Mill until retiring in 1976 as a plywood inspector. Following his retirement they moved back to the family homestead and then into Roseau.

John was an excellent fiddle player and enjoyed music of all types. He would memorize music from the radio and played music by ear with his wife and family. He loved to visit with his family telling stories of the old days talking around the table. His family was very important to him, he cherished the time he spent with them. Some of his other hobbies where deer hunting in his younger years, but he quit hunting later in life. He just couldn't shot the deer anymore he loved to watch them.

John and Anna are life members of the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Skime.
