Mr. Scarborough was born March 15, 1916, in Hamlet. He had lived in LaPorte County for 13 years after coming from Valparaiso. On March 14, 1936, in Knox, he married the former Harriet Ames.

She survives with eight daughters, Phyllis Reeves and Edith Scarborough, both of Union Mills, Mary Palmer of Kingsford Heights, Harriet Lute of Hanna, Donna Doepping of Valparaiso, Sally Scarborough of Chesterton, Jenny Pudlo of Michigan City and Debbie Michaels of Wanatah; six sons, John and David, both of Union Mills, Howard of LaPorte, Raymond of LaCrosse, Roy of Chesterton and Richard of Hobart, Ind.; 40 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace James of Hanna and Evelyn Anspaugh of Walkerton.

Mr. Scarborough was a member of Hanna United Methodist Church, the LaPorte County Farm Bureau and Laborers Local 81, Valparaiso.
