Jimmy R. Clements, 67 of Vina died Tuesday, January 13, 1998 at Red Bay Hospital.
Mr. Clements was a native of Hackleburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton and Flora Clements; and one brother, L.D. Clements, Jr. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Red Bay, serving as a deacon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He began his career at Mt. Star Junior High School where he was a principal for four years. He served as principal at Belgreen High School for 14 years, was Franklin County Superintendent of Education and worked for the Alabama State Department of Education in Montgomery for seven years. He had served as Program Director for Northwest Alabama State Junior College in Phil Campbell. Mr. Clements had organized his own Educational Consultant Company, Northwest Alabama Education Consultants. He received his B.S. Degree from Howard College in Birmingham (now Samford University); Masters's Degree from Peabody College in Nashville, TN; AA certificate in Administration and Supervision plus an additional year in post-graduate work from Auburn University in Auburn.
Mr. Clements received many honors and was recognized professionally, locally and statewide. He was named Who's Who in the South in 1975. Who's Who in Alabama in 1970 and 1972, Personalities of the South in 1969. Community Leaders of America in 1968 and was selected as Outstanding Teacher of the Year for Franklin County in 1956.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 16 at 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Abston and Rev. Larry Hill officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
