J. Harmelink Rites At Rock Valley

Funeral Services for John Harmelink, Sr. were held Saturday at the First Reformed, Church, Rock Valley, with Rev. H.G. Van Deelen officiating. Interment was in Valley View Cemetery.

Mr. Harmelink died Wednesday, May 16, at his home after an illness of two years.

John Harmelink was born March 1, 1866 at Aalten, the Netherlands, He came to America in the spring of 1880 and settled at Cedar Grove, Wis. He came to Sioux County in 1887.

He was married to Jennie Vande Brake in 1889. To this union were born nine children. 2 preceded him in death.

The children are Gerrit of Rock Valley, Bert of Sheldon, Minnie, Mrs. Henry Blankespoor, died in 1919, Priscilla, Mrs. Henry Van Dyk of Lynden, Wash., Jennie, Mrs. Allen Bonthuis of Rock Valley, Henry of Colton, S. D., John and Ed of Hawarden. Mrs. Harmelink died Feb. 5, 1913, together with a baby two weeks old.

February 25, 1914 he married Jeanette Zwannenburg. To this union twelve children were born, eight of whom survive; Andrew of Fairview, S, D., Frances, Mrs. Ted Kooima of Rock Valley, Harvey of San Diego, Calif., George of Fairview, S. D., Vernon of Pella and Josephine of Lynden, Wash.

Pallbearers were grandsons, John Harmelink, Ben Hyink, James Bonthuis, Kenneth Bonthuis, Robert Harmelink and Richard Swier.

Out of town relatives at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Navis, Chester, Nebr., Mrs. William Lammers of Sioux Center. Mr. and Mrs. George De Jong of Colton, S. D., Mr. and Mrs. Albert Burgers, Mrs. John Swier of Colton, S. D., William Melford and Jess Harmelink all of Sheboygan Falls, Wis. Donald Harmelink of Cedar Grove, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Dorsman, Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Goetch, Hartley, Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Richardson, Parker, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Richard Swier and Mr. and Mrs. John Van Lier, Colton. S. D. and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harmelink, Hospers.

Out of town friends: Mrs. Jolin Vanden Berg, Mrs. Joe Sandbulte, Mrs. Sandbulte, Sr. of Sioux Center, Mr. and Mrs. Gregerson, Mr. Staner and Mr. Manning all of Fairview, S.D.
